Roland SolJet Pro 4 XR-640

Since 12th September 2012 printMAX has had the XR-640 on the brain. Everything has been about the new Roland SolJet Pro 4 large format printer. We've released press articles on the XR-640, talked to our customers about the XR-640, we've even been tweeting about the XR-640! But most importantly... we've sold a number of the XR-640 .

At 5pm on the Roland SolJet Pro 4 launch day we were able to announce that we had in fact sold the first XR-640 in Europe. This XR-640 was going to make it's way to an existing customer of ours who already owns two Roland large format printers.

Why have we talked so much about the XR-640 and how did we sell a £19,999 printer in less than 5 hours without the customer even seeing it? Easy. It's one hell of a printer.

The eagerly anticipated successor to the Roland SolJet Pro III, the XR-640 certainly doesn't disappoint!

On seeing the new Roland printer the first comment that most make is all about how fast it is! And it really is. With print speeds of up to 49.1m² an hour. You may think this could compromise the print quality, but you'd be wrong. The colours are as strong as ever along with the fine detailing printers have come to expect from a Roland.

So, you ask, what's actually new on the XR-640 that we haven't seen before?

- The XR-640 is both the widest and fastest Roland SolJet printer to date.

- The newly developed Eco-Sol Max 2 ink has been specifically modelled on the XR-640 and the piezo gold print heads, offering greater density, pearlescence and accuracy than ever before.

- The introduction of the light black ink available on the XR-640 allows for more accurate grey scaling and precise skin tones.

- The adaptations in Roland's VersaWorks RIP software for the XR-640 (but to be available to all VersaWorks users) enable 2 really valuable features that will make everyday printing even easier than ever!

- The Pantone Spot Colour Replacement allows referencing using normal pantone reference tools.

- A pre-print warning if you don't have enough ink to complete the job.
